Original manuscript leaf from a Koran, scribed and illuminated c. 1670.  (180 x 118mm).

Very fine calligraphy, in naskhi script (the parent of modern Arabic writing), with diacritics in red. Sura heading is in white Thuluth script on a gold ground with colored floral and geometric surrounds. Versal divisions are gold discs decorated with green and orange dots. Margins ruled in red, blue, and gold.

Style of the school of Hafiz Usman (1642-1698) of Istanbul, most famous Ottoman calligrapher after Hamdullah.
