This map, published at the beginning of the Civil War, depicts the Capital City and Georgetown. Major buildings and streets are identified.

Also included are vignettes of the “SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION”, “THE CAPITOL” (showing the enlarged building with the new iron dome completed - though it was not finished until the end of the Civil War) and “WASHINGTON MONUMENT” (the proposed version - not completed until 1884!).  An interesting view of the capital at the onset of the Civil War.
