 Der Heiligen Leben  is the German translation of The Golden Legend (Legenda Aurea Sanctorum) by Jacobus de Voragine. This leaf contains a section on the Three Wise Men, with an original woodcut.

Jacobus de Voragine, Dominican Archbishop of Genoa (1292-98), composed The Golden Legend as a book of devotion for the common people. The stories tell of the struggle of numerous saints with the devil. It became one of the most popular books of the Middle Ages.
