Original leaf from a medieval manuscript Book of Hours. 16 lines of ruled gothic textura script, written in Latin with dark brown ink, on animal vellum. (150 x 110mm)
One illuminated two-line initial, twelve illuminated one-line initials, & ten illuminated line-extenders in burnished gold on a red & blue ground with delicate white penwork. Both sides have a burnished gold bar adjacent to a red & blue bar which extends along the length of the text. Recto the bars end in the top and bottom margins with graceful acanthus leaves in pink, blue & green, with the top & bottom margins having an elegant rinceaux design with floral, vines and berries in pink, green, blue, red and burnished gold.

The one-line illuminated ''B'' begins Daniel 3:84-88: ''Benedicite...'' (O ye priests of the Lord, bless the Lord: praise and exalt him above all forever. O ye servants of the Lord, bless the Lord; O ye spirits and souls of the just, bless the Lord...).
The two-line illuminated ''L'' begins Psalm 148: 1-8; ''Laudate...'' (Praise ye the Lord from the heavens: praise ye him in the high places. Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts. Praise ye him, O Sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars and light. Praise him, ye heavens of heavens: and let all the waters that are above the heavens praise the name of the Lord. For he spoke, and they were made: he commanded, and they were created...).
