Original leaf from a printed and hand-illuminated Renaissance Book of Hours. 24 lines of Latin text, ruled in red on annimal vellum. (135 x 95mm). 

Four two-line initials in liquid gold on blue or salmon ground with delicate gold tracery. Elaborate 1/4 panel borders painted in a bloral design in red, green, blue on a liquid gold ground.  Printed & fully illuminated by hand by the brothers Gilles & Germain Hardouyn

Produced at the Hardouyn workshop in Paris, c. 1505. 

This leaf continues the Holy Suffrages of the Most Holy Trinity.  The miniature paintings depict God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. 

The text next to the miniature of God the Father (depicted with a kneeling Mary, Mother of God) begins: "Domine sancte pater omnipotens eterne deus...''  (Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and eternal God, who is equal, consubstantial and coeternal with thee, before all ages...). 

The text next to the miniature of God the Son (depicted nailed to the cross with the Virgin Mary and John the Evangelist) begins: ''Domine iesu...'' (Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, the true and almighty God, brightness, and image of the Father, and life eternal...).

The text next to the miniature of God the Holy Spirit (depicted as a white dove) begins:  ''Domine spiritus sancte deus...'' (God the Holy Spirit, O Lord: He that is equal to, coeternal and consubstantial with the Father and the Son...).
