Torah Fragment - The 10 Commandments - early 1800's

$0.00

A large Manuscript Torah Scroll fragment of three columns in black ink on cream-colored animal (probably goat) parchment. (494 x 475 mm – 19 3/8 x 18 3/4”)

Forty-two lines per column, written in a very clear and precise Hebraic script.

Germany, circa 1800-1825.

A large fragment from the Fifth Book of Moses. The text is Deuteronomy (Debarim) 4:21 - 5:33, which includes the Ten Commandments.

This particular artifact is part of the very few scrolls written in Germany and Poland that survived the Holocaust. Germany was a European center of scribal arts and scrolls from there are reknown for their beautiful script. The fine parchment remains legible despite many years of use in the Synagogue, and is an excellent example of Hebraic calligraphy.
