Original leaf with woodcut illustrations from the 1594 folio edition of the Luther Bible. (345x235mm) 

Printed in German and published in Wittemberg by Zacharias Lehmen. Reference: Darlow and Moule #4199 for first edition.

This edition conforms closely to the 1534 first edition of Martin Luther’s German translation of the Bible (also published in Wittemberg) and uses many of the same woodcut illustrations.  The woodcut artists include Johan Teufel and Hans Bocksberger

This leaf contains the text from III Kings (King James I Kings) 10:3 - 11:2: ''Im alles was...'' (And Solomon informed her [Queen of Sheba] of all the things she proposed to him: there was not any word the king was ignorant of, and which he could not answer her...Blessed be the Lord thy God, whom thou hast pleased, and who hath set thee upon the throne of Israel, because the Lord hath loved Israel forever, and hath appointed thee king to do judgment and justice...).
