This 18th century sea chart was published shortly after the American Revolutionary War. It depicts the Atlantic Ocean, West Indies, eastern North America, northern South America nearly all of Europe & northwestern Africa.
Countries and major cities and waterways are identified. Many Indian tribes in North America are also located. The United States is shown extending westward to the Mississippi River. The northern border of New England is not defined.
Schrämbl (1751-1803) “led a successful revival of map making in Vienna. Completion of Schrämbl’s ambitious World Atlas, started in 1786, based on the best available sources of the time…” (Moreland & Bannister, Antique Maps, p. 88).
