This map depicts Maryland and Delaware with their counties in contrasting colors and topographical features detailed.  Various land routes, steam boat routes and rail routes are shown. 

The inset across the top provides the Steam Boat Routes from Baltimore to Norfolk, Philadelphia and Washington. The inset lower left details the City of Baltimore - with streets named and major buildings identified (hospitals, prison, churches…).

Tanner produced some of the finest Pre Civil War Maps and ''documented his maps with excellent summaries of the most recent ‘surveys, observations, and internal improvements’' (Pappenfuse & Coale, p. 70).
