''EGYPT &c.'' Philadelphia: Thomas, Cowperthwait & Co., c. 1850.  Engraved map with original hand-coloring.(Image:  15 x 12 3/8'')

This map depicts Egypt in great detail. Topographical features are shown with major towns, cities, mountains, and water routes identified. Copper Mines, the location of ''Camel Breeders'', major land routes, and Sugar Plantations are located.

Numerous additional notes describe the topography, locate ruins/tombs, provide a brief description of the regions history, and list several Egyptian words with their English meaning.  The inset, lower left, depicts ''NUBIA'' and shows the location of several ruins and has a remark about the continuation of the Nile ''The dotted part of the River is very little known''. A very attractive view of the region as it was known in the 1850's.
