This handsome historical map depicts Missouri with only 28 counties named and in contrasting colors. One of the earliest maps of the state (statehood 1821).

The state of Missouri is still surrounded on the north and west by Missouri Territory and on the south by "Arkansaw Territory". The Osage Boundary Line is shown in the western region.

Topographical features are depicted with major towns, mountains the Great Swamp (Cape Girardeau) and waterways identified. Most of the population is clustered along the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers.
