$0.00

''WESTERN HEMISPHERE'' ''EASTERN HEMISPHERE'' Philadelphia:  Anthony Finley, c. 1827, from The New General Atlas.  Very fine engraved maps  with full original hand-coloring. Two parts joined.(Image: 9 1/4 x 17'')

This map depicts the hemispheres with the continents named and in contrasting colors.  New Holland is included with Asia, and Antarctica is not yet known. Major countries, cities, waterways, deserts, and islands are identified.

Little is known about the interior of Africa.  Russian Possessions are boldly noted in present-day Alaska and the location of Captain Cook's death is noted in the Sandwich Islands. No knowledge of Antarctica is evident on the maps.

A fine example from Finley’s atlas, which was highly praised for its elegance and clarity.
