Original leaf from a medieval manuscript folio Bible with illuminations from the Johannes Grusch Workshop Latin gothic script, hand-written in brown ink, on animal vellum. (290x190mm).

Rubricated chapter numbers, initials and marginalia in red and blue. 50 lines of text in double columns.

One seven-line illuminated initial extending along the margin in colors of blue, pink, mauve, orange, burnished gold and with white tracery.  One two-line initial ''E'' in red ink with intricate red & blue scrollwork that extends along the length of the text.

France: Paris, c. 1247.

Formerly owned by the Royal Abbey of St. Genevieve in Paris. 

The large size of the page and the high quality of illumination is unusual in 13th century Bible production!

The two-line initial ''E'' begins Ezekiel 48:1-35: ''Et haec nomina…'' (And these are the name of the tribes…).

The large illuminated initial ''D'' opens the Prologue to the Book of Daniel.
