Original leaf with woodcut illustration from the Bible in Latin (Biblia Latina) produced for Anton Koberger of Nuremberg. (330 x 245mm - 13.2 x 9.8"). Printed by J. Sacon of Lyon in 1521. Reference: Darlow and Moule #6101. Condition note: Some old remargining  - not into text.

Koberger was the leading German publisher of his day - known particularly for the Nuremberg Chronicle.  He was also Albrecht Durer’s Godfather – providing Durer with his early training!

The text for this leaf is nicely printed in gothic letter in two columns. Rubricating and underlining are executed by hand in red ink. Two four-line woodcut initials surrounded by a floral design.

This leaf contains the text from John 3:6 – 5:38: ''Quod natum…'' (That which is born of the flesh, is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spiritFor God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world: but that the world through him might be saved…A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven…I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. ).
