This map depicts the Caribbean, including the Florida peninsula (with the southern tip made up of a series of islands, and the St. John River extending from above St. Augustine south for the entire length of Florida), the coastal region of North America along the Gulf, Central America and northern South America.

Through this portion of the West Indies passed the Spanish Galleons (treasure ships) from major harbors in Mexico/New Spain, South America and Cuba to and from “Old” Spain. Major towns, cities, islands and harbors are identified throughout. In present-day Texas the location where La Salle landed in 1685 is also noted.
