Roman Pottery - Large Handled Jug

Ancient Roman greyware pottery jug – wheel turned with an applied strap handle. It has a flared and rolled rim. The bulbous body tapers to a flat base. This large jug is embellished with a brown pigment band around the upper circumference. The surface shows an interesting encrusted surface from burial.
Nicely shaped and in excellent condition with no cracks or repairs.
A very fine example of Roman provincial utility ware from the eastern Mediterranean/ Holy Land region, pleasingly and skillfully potted.
Provenance: ex Midwestern private collection, acquired in the Mideast in the early 1960’s.
