This detailed historical map, with its highly decorative borders, depicts Ireland and Scotland with counties named and in contrasting pastel colors. Topographical features are shown, and major towns, cities, water routes, and land routes identified.

On the tip of Caithness County, Scotland is “John O’Groat’s House”. He was a Dutchman who built his octagonal house during the reign of James IV (1488-1513).  The inset (upper left of Scotland) shows the “SHETLAND ISLANDS”
