“PLAN OF BALTIMORE”  Philadelphia:  S. Augustus Mitchell, Jr., c. 1867. From the 1867 Edition of Mitchell's "New General Atlas"  (dated in the lower margin).  Engraved map with original hand-coloring. (Image: 9 ¼ x 10 ¾’’)

This map, with its highly ornate border, depicts the City of Baltimore in great detail. The Washington Monument, major buildings (City Jail, Baltimore Museum, City Hotel…), streets, cemeteries, squares, shipyards, rail and depots are identified. Colored and numbered sections reflect the political wards. A very detailed and attractive view of the city at the end of the Civil War.
