This is the first issue of the Bowen map with arrows to show the direction of the trade winds in the oceans surrounding the continent.  The map is highly detailed with topographical features, cities, towns, villages, mountains, waterways, and islands located. 

In the southern part Hellenbok, Drakenstein and the Dutch fort appear as well as a river which is said to have no end. The Hottentot tribes have moved further north and Monomotapa still appears.

Gold and silver mines  appear in Zimbabwe.

Emanuel Bowen (1694?-1767) was a British engraver most well-known for his atlases and county maps. He was appointed as mapmaker to both George II of England and Louis XV of France. His business was carried on by his son, Thomas Bowen.
