Original leaf from a Spanish Antiphonal on animal parchment.  (480 x 350mm – 19 x 13 3/4'’). The manuscript text and music (seven lines of music on a five-line stave) were beautifully executed by hand over 500 years ago!!!

One elaborate illuminated initial in deep blue and red with delicate red and blue penwork in geometric & floral design – extending into the margin with a wonderful face!!  One illuminated initial in deep blue with delicate red penwork extending into the margin.

The illuminated ''G'' begins: ''Gloriosi...'' (These are glorious princes over all the earth, they loved one another in their lives, and in their death they were not divided).

The elaborately illuminated and inhabited initial ''E'' begins I Corinthians 3:6: “Ego plantavi...” (I have planted, Apollo watered, but God gave the increase).

Antiphonals contain chants for the canonical hours of the Divine Office: first vespers or the vigil of great feasts, matins, lauds, prime, terce, sext, none, vespers and compline.
