This view depicts Yale as it appeared in the 1830’s-40’s. The white building with columned portico & strong pediment framed by two towering trees is the State House (torn down in 1889). The church at the extreme right is the Center Church on the Green (still standing). The buildings at the left belong to Yale College and are (left to right): the Old Chapel (called Athenaeum after 1824); the Lyceum; the New Chapel (erected 1824). When this view was drawn, the tuition at Yale was about thirty-five dollars a year.
