"Map of Oregon, Washington, and part of Idaho" c 1863 Mitchell

$0.00

“MAP OF OREGON, WASHINGTON, AND PART OF IDAHO.” Philadelphia: S. Augustus Mitchell, Jr., c. 1863 from the Mitchell's New General Atlas (dated 1860 in the lower margin, but published in the 1863 Atlas). Scarce - the only year that this map was issued in the configuration shown.  Engraved map with particularly attractive and bright.original hand-coloring. (Image: 10 ¾ x 13 ¼’’).

This map, with its highly decorative border, depicts the State of Oregon, and Territories of Washington (statehood 1889), and part of what was originally a very large Idaho Territory (statehood 1890) – which included present-day Montana.  This unusually informative map identifies mountain passes, and locates most major towns, cities, forts and water routes.

The Emigrant Route from the States and Emigrant Waggon Road to California are shown and the “Gold Mines” of Idaho are noted.  Indian tribes and missions are located throughout. A very detailed view of the area as it existed briefly during the American Civil War.
