Nine illuminated initials alternating in violet with intricate interior and exterior red penwork, and red with intricate interior and exterior blue penwork.

The illuminated “E” begins Luke 1:47: “Exultet…” (And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior). The illuminated “I” begins: “In manu…” (Into thy hands O Lord).

The illuminated “D” begins Psalm 59 (King James 60) 13: “Da nobis…” (Give us help from trouble).

The illuminated “N” begins Psalm 61 (KJ 62) 2: “Nonne deo…” (Shall not my soul be subject to God?).

The illuminated “B” begins Psalm 65 (KJ 66) 8: “Benedicite…” (O bless our God, ye Gentiles).

Antiphonals contain chants for the canonical hours of the Divine Office: 1st vespers or vigil of great feasts, matins, lauds, prime, terce, sext, none, vespers & compline.
