This map depicts Michigan with its counties named and in contrasting colors. Topographical features are shown, and major towns, cities, islands, wagon routes, railroads (existing and proposed), and water routes are identified. 

The inset, upper right, lists the steamboat routes from Detroit to Fort Gratiot and to Fort Howard. The inset, left, depicts the “Western Part of Michigan”. A very detailed view of the state as it existed prior to the Civil War.
