Original leaf from a medieval manuscript Book of Hours. 15 lines of  red-ruled Latin text, in dark brown ink, on animal vellum.  (197 x 138mm).

One two-line illuminated initial in blue with delicate white penwork & an interior floral design in red and blue on a burnished gold ground, & extending into the margin with a rinceaux floral design in red, green, blue & burnished gold.; ten one-line illuminated initials & eight illuminated line-extenders in burnished gold on red & blue ground with delicate white penwork.

The text is surrounded on 3 sides with an elegant rinceaux panel border in a delicate floral motif with ivy leaves in red, blue, green, orange & burnished gold. One illuminated bar extends beyond the length of the text in red, blue & burnished gold.

The one-line illuminated ''A'' begins Psalm 45 (King James 46) 10-12: ''Auferens...'' (Making wars to cease even to the end of the earth...). 

The two-line illuminated ''F'' begins Psalm 86 (KJ 87) 1-7:  ''Fundamenta...'' (The foundations thereof are in the holy mountains:  The Lord loveth the gates of Sion above all the tabernacles of Jacob.  Glorious things are said of thee, O city of God.  I will be mindful of Rahab and of Babylon knowing me.  Behold the foreigners, and Tyre, and the people of the Ethiopians, these were there.  Shall not Sion say: This man and that man is born in her?  And the Highest himself hath founded her...).
