Original leaf from a medieval manuscript Bible.  Written in formal gothic textura minuscule in two columns of forty-six lines per page on animal vellum. (293 x 200 mm - 11.7 x 8") 

Six multi-lined illuminated initials alternating in pink and blue with floral interior on a burnished gold ground; numerous one-line illuminated initials alternating in blue with delicate red penwork and burnished bold with delicate blue penwork. Full-length illuminated marginal stems with tendrils and leaves painted in burnished gold, white, blue, pink & red.                                                                            

Paris, c. 1320-40.

This leaf contains text from Psalm 28 (King James 29) through the opening of Psalm 33 (King James 34) – five complete Psalms:  “Afferte…” (Bring to the Lord, O ye children of God: bring to the Lord the offspring of rams. Bring to the Lord glory and honor…); “Extalbo…” (I will extol thee, O Lord, for thou hast upheld me: and hast not made my enemies to rejoice over me…); “In te domine…” (In thee, O Lord, have I hoped…); “Beati quorum” (Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven and whose sins are covered…); “Exultate…” (Rejoice in the Lord, O ye just: praise becometh the upright…); “Benedicam…” (I will bless the Lord…).
