Ancient Roman Handled Glass Jug - c 1st - 3rd century AD

$0.00

A fine example of blown glass with an applied ''strap'' handle, and a round body with slender neck and flaring lip. This attractive jug was formed of two separate pieces of glass. The handle was blown separately.

Excellent condition with remarkable surface patina of iridescence with green and silver highlights. (82 x 60 mm – 3 1/4 x 2 5/16 inches)

Ancient Roman - circa 1st - 3rd century AD

Provenance: From the estate of Hadassah K. Musher, NYC.

The survival of this fragile glass seems nearly miraculous. Occasionally examples where the glass has reacted to burial exhibit a shimmering iridescence that has long captivated the imagination of the most ardent collectors and artists.
