$0.00

“CARTE DE LA CAROLINE ET GEORGIE...”J. N. Bellin.  Amsterdam,  G. Raynall,  c. 1773. From Raynal's Atlas Portatif.  (Ref: Cumming #444;  Sellers & van Ee #1374; Not listed in Tar Heel Maps).  Engraved map by A. van Krevelt with later hand-coloring. (Image : 7 ¼ x 11'')

This scarce Dutch edition of the Bellin map depicts the colonies of  “Caroline” and “Georgie” as they appeared prior to the American Revolution. Bellin's map was the first appearance of the Ísle Chickahouk” and I. Micher” of the coast of present-day North Carolina.

Topographical features are also shown with major towns, waterways and mountains identified. “Frey dec” and “Cossart” , just south of Virginia, are presumably frontier outposts, found near the New (Neuve) and Yadkin Rivers, respectively. The Indian villages of "Cheraquis" and "Chotte" are found in the area of modern-day eastern Tennessee.
