Indian Devanagari/Sanscrit Manuscript Leaf - c. 1800

$0.00

Original manuscript leaf from a late 18th/early 19th century Indian religious book written in Devanagari script on fine native hand-made polished paper. (98 x 158mm - 3.9 x 6.3").

Devanagari is an alphabetic script derived from Brahmi writing in the 12-13 century, and is used to write Sanscrit and Hindi. It is written and read left to right. The name "Devanagari" comes from two root words that mean "deity" and "city" and implies writing that is both religious and sophisticated.
