Original leaf from a medieval manuscript Book of Hours. 15 lines of red-ruled Latin text, in dark brown ink, on animal vellum. (197 x 138mm) 

Two two-line illuminated initials in alternating in red and blue with delicate white penwork & an interior floral design in red, orange and blue on a burnished gold ground and extending into the margin in a delicate rinceaux design; seven one-line illuminated initials & six illuminated line-extenders in burnished gold on red & blue ground with delicate white penwork.  

The text is surrounded on 3 sides with an elegant rinceaux panel border in a delicate floral motif with ivy leaves in red, blue, green, orange & burnished gold; an illuminated bar extends beyond the length of the text in red, blue & burnished gold.

The one-line illuminated ''G'' begins the Glory Be (Glory be to the Father...). 

The two-line illuminated ''B'' begins ''Beata es...'' (Blessed art thou O Virgin Mary which hast born our Lord the creator of the world. Thou hast brought forth him which made thee, and ever remain a virgin).

The two-line illuminated ''A'' begins the hymn Ave Maris Stella - complete: ''Ave...'' (Hail, O Star of the ocean, God's own Mother blest, ever sinless Virgin, gate of heav'nly rest. Taking that sweet Ave, which from Gabriel came, peace confirm within us, changing Eve's name. Break the sinners' fetters, make our blindness day, Chase all evils from us, for all blessings pray. Show thyself a Mother, may the Word divine born for us thine Infant hear our prayers through thine... Praise to God the Father, honor to the Son, in the Holy Spirit, be the glory one. Amen).
