In Congress, July 4, 1776, The Unanimous Declaration of the Thirteen United States of America.” Published by Phelps & Ensign, 7 ½ Bowery N.Y. (New York City), ca. 1845-1850. Lithograph with original hand-coloring. (Overall size:  28 ½ x 22’’) 

A very scarce broadside of the complete Declaration of Independence text with emphasized words in bold. Facsimile signatures of the original signers are arranged below the text.  The border is composed of entwined vines in original hand-color that surround 14 vignettes representing the 13 original Colonies and a heraldic emblem of the United States.

Small Declaration of Independence Collection, Univ. of Virginia), NY Public Library Rare Book and Manuscript Division, and George Washington University Museum collection, AS160. In 1841-43 Phelps and Ensign also produced a variant of the Woodhull 1819 facsimile of the Declaration which included portraits of Washington, Jefferson and Adams (Bidwell, American History in Image and Text, 1988, #4).

In remarkably good condition for a 170 year old broadside.  Some minor surface soiling, one penny sized stain above the date, intermittent wear along the longitudinal edges and soft creases from rolling.
