This historical and decorative map shows North America at a particularly interesting and rapidly changing period. The Republic of Texas’ borders are based on Stephen F. Austin’s 1830 map (in a heart shape - following the Nueces River northward to the Red River instead of the Rio Grande northward to the Arkansas).
Oregon Territory extends to the controversial 54° 40', and Alaska is labeled Russian America. Major cities, mountains, waterways and military forts are also located.
The very ornate and detailed border depicts scenes with animals and vegetation native to North America. The chart at the bottom lists the population of each country (The Republic of Texas was only 200,000). A most unusual, handsome and very informative map.
