''CONNECTICUT''  Henry S. Tanner. Philadelphia:  Carey & Hart, c. 1842.  Engraved map with original hand-coloring. (Image: 11 x 14”)

This handsome historical map depicts Connecticut with its counties named and in contrasting colors. Topographical features are shown and major cities, towns, mountains and waterways are identified.

The chart along the left lists the population for the counties and major towns, plus shows the overall change in population from 1701 to 1840.

The insets along the lower right provide a larger view of ''Hartford &c.'' and ''New Haven &c.''  locating several institutions including the ''Insane Hospital'', ''State Arsenal'' and ''Washington College''. A very attractive and informative view of the state in the early 1840’s.
