$0.00

“GEORGIA” New York:  J. H. Colton, c. 1859.  Engraved map with original hand-coloring. (Image: 15 1/2 x 12 5/8'')

This map depicts Georgia with its counties named and in contrasting colors. The state capital is noted as Milledgeville (from 1803-1868 when Atlanta became the new capital).

Topographical features are shown and major cities, towns, canals, swamps, land routes, railroads and water routes are identified.  Many mills and factories are located throughout the map.

Also noted is the “U.S. Mint” - which minted gold coins only from 1838-1861 (outside Dahlonega, Georgia - Lumpkin County).  Owen's Mine (Haralson County) is also located. An exceptionally detailed view of the state as it existed prior to the Civil War!
