Original leaf from a manuscript Book of Hours. 25 lines of text, ruled in red, written in Latin in angular gothic book-hand script on animal vellum. (160 x 115mm – 6 ¼ x 4 ½’’)
One four-line and two two-line illuminated initials in blue and white with floral infill on a gold ground; twenty illuminated one-line initials and ten illuminated line-extenders in gold on a red or blue ground. Unusual vibrant and elaborate panel borders in colorful floral and architectural motif on a red or rich sable ground. Several very tiny holes and closed slit in inner margin.

Style and execution of the miniature paintings in the parent manuscript are closely related to the Master of the Geneva Latini (see Walter 224 & 233 for examples).
The four-line illuminated “D” opens the Hours of the Virgin – Hour of Terce: “Deus…” (Incline unto my aid O God. O Lord make haste to help me…).
The two-line illuminated “A” begins Psalm 119 (King James 120) complete: “Ad te…” (In my trouble I cried to the Lord: and he heard me… With them that hated peace I was peaceable: when I spoke to them they fought against me without cause).
The two-line illuminated “L” begins Psalm 120 (KJ 121) complete: “Levavi…” (I have lifted up my eyes to the mountains, from whence help shall come to me. My help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. May he not suffer thy foot to be moved: neither let him slumber that keepeth thee…May the Lord keep thy coming in and thy going out; from henceforth now and forever).
The two-line illuminated “L” begins Psalm 121 (KJ 122) 1-4: “Letatus…” (I rejoiced at the things that were said to me: We shall go into the house of the Lord…).
