“JOHNSON’S VENEZUELA, NEW GRANADA, ECUADOR, PERU & BOLIVIA, CHILE AND GUIANA.” New York:  Johnson and Ward, c. 1864. Original hand-colored map. (Image: 13x16’’)

This historical and decorative map depicts northwestern South America with countries named and delineated in red. Topographical features are shown with major towns, cities, railroads and waterways identified. Mountain ranges, and Indian ruins are noted. The insets show “Chile” and the “City of Lima”.

The vignettes depict “Juan Fernandez or Mas a Tierra” and “City of Valparaiso”.  A very attractive view of the region as it existed in the 1860’s
