''GRAY’S ATLAS MAP OF TEXAS'' Philadelphia: O.W. Gray & Son, c. 1871.  Lithographed map with original hand-coloring.(Image: 12 1/2 x 14 3/4’’).Exceptional nice example in very fine condition, with attractive color.

This very detailed decorative  historical map depicts Texas with the counties shaded in contrasting colors. Topographical features are noted and major cities, towns, Military Forts, wells, springs and mountains are identified.  Rail routes and stage routes are also delineated.

The newly created west Texas county of “Pecos”  is shown, but Aransas County (southeast Texas), which was also formed in 1871, is not shown on the map. The disputed area of Greer County is shown in the southwestern corner of Indian Territory. The insets show the ''Plan of Galveston Bay…'' and ''Plan of Sabine Lake''. An exceptionally detailed view of the Texas as it existed following the Civil War.
