$0.00

''NORTH AMERICA'' Philadelphia:  Anthony Finley, c. 1827.  Very fine engraved map with full original hand-coloring.(Image: 11 1/4 x 8 5/8'')

This handsome historical map depicts the North American continent with countries named and in contrasting colors.  The United States is shown with its northwest boundary extending north to 54° 40' - a boundary line contested between the British and US until 1846 when it was officially settled at the 49th parallel. Russian possessions are clearly marked in present-day Alaska.

Much of the region in present-day Utah and Nevada is listed as "Unexplored Country''.  Texas is shown as part of Mexico just 8 years prior to the Independent Republic of Texas.  Indian tribes are located throughout the continent and numerous exploratory notes are provided along the Arctic Circle.

A fine example from Finley’s scarce atlas, which was highly praised for its elegance and clarity.

Shipped in archival 20x16'' mat.
