This very detailed map shows New York City and vicinity with major streets, buildings (including the Orphan Asylum, NY Academy of Music, the House of Refuge, the Custom House and the Exchange), squares, rail, and parks identified. 

Also shown are the Ferry routes with distances noted. Governor’s Island and Ellis Island are also shown. An excellent view of area as it was known following the American Civil War.
