“PLAN OF NEW YORK &c.” Philadelphia: S. Augustus Mitchell,  Jr., c. 1860 - First edition of the Mitchell, Jr. atlas.  Engraved map with exceptionally bright original hand-coloring. (Image: 13 x 101/2”)

This very detailed map shows New York City and vicinity with major streets, buildings (including the Orphanage, the Asylum, the House of Refuge, the Custom House and the Exchange), squares, rail, and parks identified.

Also shown are the Ferry routes with distances noted. Governor’s Island and Ellis Island are also shown. An excellent view of area as it was known prior to the onset of the Civil War.
