“CUBA” Philadelphia: S. Augustus Mitchell, Jr., c. 1871. Engraved map with original hand-coloring.(Image: 10 5/8 x 13 ¾’’)

This very historical map depicts Cuba with counties named and in contrasting colors.  Topographical features are shown with major towns, cities, villages, rail, and water-ways identified. Islands along the Great Bahama Bank are named (with an addition note by the island of “St. Salvador” regarding Columbus’ landing in America), and the southern tip of Florida and Florida Reefs are also shown.

Mileage between Havana & New York (1280 miles) is shown with a dotted line indicating the route from Havana.  A very detailed map of the island as it existed in the early 1870’s!
