A very fine original mezzotint engraving by Richard Purcell after a painting by M. Jenkin. This mezzotint was published at a time when the Rev. Thomas Jones (c.1729-1762), was a member of the Evangelical movement in the Anglican Church, He was considered a “wondrous popular preacher”, and was a friend of William Romaine, George Whitefield and John Wesley.
Richard Purcell (Active 1746-66) Purcell started his career working for a number of print-sellers in his native Dublin. He moved to London around 1755 to join his Dublin master John Brooks and a number of other Irish engravers.
