Original manuscript leaf from an illuminated manuscript of the Shanama or Book of Kings - one of the most famous of all Persian manuscripts. (Text block: 250x138mm). Paper is very fragile with old repairs to back. 

Persia, c. 1550.

Very fine calligraphy, in four columns of Persian Nastaliq script on polished paper, sprinkled with gold. Margins ruled in blue, orange, red and gold, with column bars in a floral motif on gold ground. Headings are in white script surrounded by flowers on a gold ground. (Ref: Soudaver, Art of the Persian Court).

Presented in an archival 16x12'' mat.
