Original leaf from a medieval manuscript Book of Hours. 16 lines of ruled gothic textura script, written in Latin with dark brown ink, on animal vellum. (150 x 110mm) 

Three illuminated two-line initials, ten illuminated one-line initials, & five illuminated line-extenders in burnished gold on a red & blue ground with delicate white penwork. Both sides have a burnished gold bar adjacent to a red & blue bar which extends along the length of the text, with the top & bottom margins having an elegant rinceaux design with flowers, vines & berries in pink, green, blue, red & burnished gold.

The one-line illuminated ''G'' begins the Glory Be: ''Gloria...'' (Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit...). 

The two-line illuminated ''V'' begins the hymn: ''Veni creator...'' (COME, Holy Spirit, Creator blest, and in our souls take up Thy rest; come with Thy grace and heavenly aid to fill the hearts which Thou hast made. Remember, O Creator Lord, that in the Virgin's sacred womb Thou wast conceived, and of her flesh didst our mortality assume. Mother of grace, O Mary blest, to thee, sweet fount of love, we fly; shield us through life, and take us hence to thy dear bosom when we die. O Jesu! born of Mary bright! Immortal glory be to Thee; praise to the Father infinite, and Holy Spirit eternally. Amen).  

The two-line illuminated ''A'' begins Psalm 119 (King James 120) complete: ''Ad...'' (In my trouble I cried to the Lord: and he heard me.  O Lord deliver my soul...). 

The two-line illuminated ''L'' begins Psalm 120 (KJ 121): ''Levavi...'' (I have lifted up my eyes to the mountains...).
