The text following the large red “I” begins Galatians 1:11-20: “Notum vobis…” (For I give you to understand, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. For neither did I receive it of man, nor did I learn it; but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. For you have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews’ religion: how that, beyond measure, I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it…To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the Gentiles, immediately I condescended not to flesh and blood…).

The text following the large red “I” begins Matthew 19: 27-29: “Dixit…” (Then Peter Simon answering, said to him:  Behold we have left all things, and have followeed thee: what therefore shall we have? And Jesus said to them: Amen, I say to you, that you, who have followed me, in the regeneration, when the Son of man shall sit on the seat of his majesty, you also shall sit on twelve seats judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And every one that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife…shall possess life everlasting).

The text following the large red “F” begins Galatians 2: 6-8: “Deus…” (God accepteth not the person of man, for to me they that seemed to be something added nothing…).

Lectionaries are selections of texts arranged for use in the liturgy. They sometimes refer to books such as Gospels that are accompanied by lists, illustrations or markings ordering them for liturgical use.

An attractive leaf in fine condition. It is a handsome example of manusscript "blackletter" script written about 25 years before Gutenberg famously utilized this script  as a model for the typeface of the first printed Bible.
